Canadian gymnast Allie Black will not participate in the all-around competition Tokyo Olympics, The Canadian Olympic Committee announced on Wednesday morning.
In a press release, COC and the Canadian Gymnastics Association stated that the 25-year-old from Halifax was injured and was unable to participate in Thursday’s competition.
COC Chief Sports Officer Eric Myles said: “We have the unfortunate news that Allie sprained her ankle during the training session on Tuesday and made the difficult decision to withdraw from the all-around event.” “We hope she will still be able to participate in the beam finals on August 3.”
Black finished fifth at the 2016 Rio Olympics, the best result in Canadian history.
According to the US gymnastics team, another star will be lost in Thursday’s all-around finals-defending champion American gymnast Simone Byers will not participate.
The US Gymnastics team wrote on Twitter: “After further medical evaluation, Simone Byers withdrew from the final individual all-around competition.” “We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and praise her for putting her happiness in The courage of the first place. Her courage once again shows why she is a role model for so many people.”
