SEATTLE — The Chinese Information and Service Center (CISC) is launching a summer learning program to provide culturally relevant education and engagement to 20 preschool and more than 60 elementary school students living in the City of Seattle this summer.
The curriculum will include English literacy, mathematics, culture and the world, and physical activity, and will combine STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) through interactive group activities to foster curiosity and inquiry. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to participate in planned field trips to the Museum of Flight, Kelsey Creek Farm, Seahurst Park Beach (hosted by the Seattle Aquarium), and more.
“We are delighted to continue our education this summer through interactive and hands-on learning for over 80 youth,” said CISC Executive Director Michael Itti. “The pandemic has impacted their education, launching this summer learning program. Reflects our commitment to the next generation and responsiveness to community needs.”
“CISC has served thousands of youth over the decades since we launched our after-school program in 1996 and our bilingual kindergarten in 2006,” said Huiling Chen, CISC program director. “We are delighted when young people come back years later to tell us about the positive impact CISC has had on their lives.”
The eight-week program will include an online tutoring option to enable more students to participate as face-to-face classes are limited by classroom space.
