Covid-19: The latest global developments | News 24

The following is the latest development of the coronavirus crisis:

-Desperate Indonesia gets oxygen-

Indonesia receives much-needed supplies of oxygen and protective equipment from neighboring Singapore to support an overwhelmed healthcare system. Several cities have tightened restrictions while fighting the deadliest wave of the virus.

-Cuba approves domestic vaccine-

Cuba approved its indigenously produced Abdala coronavirus vaccine for emergency use, which was the first vaccine in a Latin American country. The manufacturer of Abdala stated that after three injections, the jab was more than 92% effective in preventing Covid-19.

-Malta is close to not pierced-

Malta stated that after the surge in Covid-19 cases, it will be the first European country to close its borders to people who have not yet been fully vaccinated.

-EU death record-

The death toll in the EU last year hit the highest level since records began in 1961. This reflects the impact of the coronavirus epidemic. The number of deaths each year has increased by 11% over the death toll in 2019, reaching 5.2 million.

-Hard times in Thailand-

The Thai authorities announced a seven-hour curfew in the capital Bangkok and nine provinces and adopted stricter restrictions to curb the spread of the virus.

The United States is the most affected country with 606,476 deaths, followed by Brazil with 530179 people, India with 405939 people, Mexico with 234458 people, and Peru with 193909 people.

According to the World Health Organization, the number of direct or indirect deaths due to the pandemic is three times the official figure.
