Deals of the Week: January 2 to January 5, 2024

January 6, 2024

I will try again to keep posting these posts. However, there probably won't be any posts for the last two weeks of January as I'll be on holiday in Australia and not sure if there will be any trading.

Same as before: My goal here is to show some of my process and the scans I use to find these trade candidates. They certainly won't be the best deals one could possibly make, it just highlights the ones I found and chose to make.

I've been watching shipping stocks since they rose in December. So when it came up on one of my favorite scans it really stood out Non-ADX 1,2,3,4 Bullish . As a bonus, it formed a hammer on the 20-day and 50-day moving averages.

This time it worked really well, I gained 9.88% in 4 days. However, I wish I had chosen ZIM. ZIM also triggers non-ADX pullbacks and my favorite calm after the storm. It is currently up 48%(!!!) These signals on the 29th.

Here’s a diagram of Zim:

I used to trade QS in its glory days following its 2020 IPO. This is someone I classify as an “Intraday Runner” in my trading journal (if you've ever seen My 2023 review).

I used the 30-minute opening range breakout to enter. The highest point of the day increased by 28%. Here is an intraday chart with 30 minute candles:
It's hard not to accept such quick gains, but as I said in my 2023 review, I'm working on holding on longer. Also, I think this would actually work under the right conditions. QS was indeed defeated and has returned to the teens. Here's a daily chart showing it's July 2023 peak, which I hope it returns to

DYN is another day runner. This ended in a loss for me on day one, but it really took off on day two. But the company priced in the secondary market on Friday, leading to the decline. I'm still in it Maintain a 17% increase.
  • I tried another day run on OMGA but got stopped on Friday
  • I am short WGMI on what appears to be a weak rally. This is the game for Bitcoin miners to unwind their parabolic moves.
  • The setup when I purchased AMD was very similar to TEAM.
  • I had also invested in SUN and ABNB, but in order to get rid of margin over the weekend, I closed both positions on Friday afternoon. SUN is a small loss, ABNB is a small gain…they basically cancel each other out.
