A few months ago, I had the privilege of visiting the Satpura Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh, India. When I boarded the jeep that would take me into the jungle, I didn’t know what to expect. What I found was an incredibly unique and beautiful landscape, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. How to Get to Satpura Tiger Reserve

If you are from Bhopal city, it is not difficult to go to Satpura Tiger Reserve. It takes only about four hours to drive along the national road to reach the town of Pachmarhi. From there it’s another hour’s drive to the park entrance. If you’re coming from Mumbai or Delhi, the journey is much longer. You have to fly to Bhopal and then drive about six hours to reach the park. However, the park is definitely worth a visit.

Apart from incredible wildlife and scenery, Satpura Tiger Reserve offers many activities for its visitors. Hiking and jeep safari are popular options, as is bird watching – more than 300 species of birds have been recorded in the park. You can also explore the area on horseback or by boat. Boating is especially popular during the summer when the water is high and allows you to get up close and personal with incredible wildlife such as turtles, otters, ducks and a variety of fish.

You can also spot birds such as kingfishers, great cormorants and white-breasted water grouse. Another great way to experience Satpura Tiger Reserve is on a night safari, which can be organized with a government-approved guide.
