According to local media reports, Dutch crime journalist Peter R. De Vries died at the age of 64 after being shot last week.

The journalist started his career by investigating underworld, high-profile cases and inspecting more than 500 murder files.

As one of the most famous crime journalists, he won the 2008 International Emmy Award in Current Affairs for reporting the American teenager Natalee Holloway’s disappearance on Aruba in 2005.

Now, his family pays tribute to the famous reporter.

“Peter fought to the end, but failed to win the battle. He died surrounded by people who loved him,” his family said in a statement issued by RTL that the network hired De Vries as a crime reporter.

“Peter has always believed in his belief:’It is impossible to be free by bending your knees.’

“We are incredibly proud of him, but also very sad.”

In Parliament, Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra stated that he was “deeply shocked” by the shooting.

“We don’t know the specifics, but no matter what the situation is, this is terrible news that is unimaginable,” Mr. Hoekstra said.
