Duterte’s daughter Sara running for vice president of the Philippines

  • Sara Duterte, daughter of outgoing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, will run for vice president in the 2022 election.
  • Her decision was made before the November 15 deadline, and candidates can postpone their participation in the May election.
  • Sarah’s decision to run for vice president puts little Marcos in a good position in the presidency.

Government election monitors said Saturday that Sarah Duterte, the daughter of outgoing Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, will run for vice president. The speculation in the previous months was that she would seek the highest office.

The Election Commission announced on its official Facebook page that Sarah will run for the second highest post in the country to replace another candidate.

Her spokesperson Christina García Frasco said on Facebook: “This is to confirm that Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, through her representative, has submitted her candidate for vice president under Lakas-CMD (party). Certificate.”

Her decision was made before the November 15 deadline, and candidates can postpone their participation in the May election.

She immediately got the support of the former dictator’s son and the party of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (Ferdinand Marcos Jr) Jr., and became his running partner in the polls.

Sarah is widely expected to run for president to succeed her father, who is constitutionally prohibited from seeking a second six-year term and is facing an investigation by the International Criminal Court for its deadly drug war.

For months, she has insisted that she wants to serve as the mayor of Davao City again, the family’s southern Belivik, despite being a leader in the voter preference survey for the next president.

After she suddenly withdrew from the mayoral campaign, withdrew from regional political parties, and joined the Lakas-ChristianMusli Democrats (Lakas-ChristianMusli Democrats), her close ally and former president Gloria Arroyo’s national party Later, speculation about her plan intensified this week.

On Thursday, she told reporters between the wedding:

I thank my supporters. I hope that no matter what happens in the next few days, I can give them what they want.

Sarah’s decision to run for vice president puts little Marcos in a good position in the presidency.

As we all know, Marcos Jr. ranked second in the polls, ahead of celebrity Mayor Francisco Domagoso, boxing great Manny Pacquiao and current Vice President Lenny Robredo.

There is speculation that Sarah tried to persuade little Marcos to return to the vice presidential campaign and build a strong alliance between the two clans.

In the Philippines, the president and vice president are elected separately.

The Marcos family’s stronghold spans the northern and central parts of the country, while the Duterte family is widely supported in the south.

But little Marcos, who was seen walking arm in arm with Sara at the same wedding on Thursday, told reporters, “I will continue my plan. I participated in this race for president.”

Political analyst Richard Haidarian told AFP: “Duterte’s campaign for vice president… more or less identified Bonbon Marcos as the number one contender and the candidate to be defeated in these elections. Status.”
