Tom Ikeda
Tom Ikeda, founding executive director and longtime leader of online archive and public history organization Densho, recently announced his retirement.
Ikeda co-founded Densho in 1996, growing it from a small volunteer-run oral history project to a “gold standard” digital archive reaching over a million people worldwide each year.
“Tom is a true trailblazer, not only in using digital technology to make this history more accessible, but also in keeping it relevant and engaging the next generation,” said Board Chairman Ron Tanemura.
There is currently a nationwide search for a dynamic new leader to take the helm.
Ikeda plans to stay on until a new executive director is elected and help guide the transition process.
