The broadcaster’s former technology reporter Rory Cellan-Jones recounted his shock after taking the dog from a car on Erconwald Street at 10:20 on Friday morning.

Mr. Cellan Jones tweeted out at 11:51 a.m.: “A terrible thing happened.
“Our dog cart was stolen while he was picking up another pet. It contained our dog Cabbage.”
For the past 14 years, this “gentle” rescue dog has been a member of the Cellan-Jones family.
He said: “She is really old. We estimate that she is about 15 years old now. She is mostly blind and deaf, and she is a member of the family. We accept that she is about to end, but it is horrible to let her go like this.
“Cabbage is a rescue dog-we got her 14 years ago. She is very nervous and very energetic. When I can run, I used to run with her.
“She needs to walk 3 times a day, so we bought a dog walker and have been using it for a while.
“We love her. She is a very gentle dog. The only thing she is not gentle is the pillar that comes in through the door.”
Metropolitan Police is investigating the theft, but no one has been arrested yet.
A spokesperson said: “At 10:11 on Friday, November 12, the police received a report that a van with six dogs was stolen. Officials were present. No one was arrested. Investigation is ongoing.”
There was a series of dog stealing incidents last year. Metropolitan Police data showed that during the last lockdown, dog stealing incidents increased by 75%.
