Rescuers are excavating the wreckage of a collapsed hotel in the east China Authorities said on Tuesday that they are looking for survivors of a disaster that killed at least 8 people and lost 9 people.
The Suzhou city government said in a social media post that after the building collapsed on Monday afternoon, workers in Suzhou City used search and rescue dogs, cranes, ladders and metal knives to search all night.
The photo shows rescuers wearing orange suits and helmets working in the ruins of buildings, which have been reduced to girders and rubble. The cause of the collapse is under investigation.
At the time the hotel collapsed and at least 23 people were trapped. Six people were rescued, eight people were confirmed dead, and the whereabouts of nine people are unknown.
Authorities stated that 18 of the trapped persons were identified through check-in records, apparently hotel guests. The identities of the other five people are not yet known.
According to China’s online booking app Ctrip, the 54-room Four Seasons Kaiyuan Hotel opened in 2018.
The city government stated that it mobilized more than 600 people, including the earthquake rescue team, and 120 vehicles for the operation.
Suzhou is a city in Jiangsu Province close to Shanghai. It is a popular tourist destination and is famous for its historic canals and traditional Chinese gardens.
