This is our first trip after the pandemic and our first air trip in two years. In my early travel post on July 13, I wrote about our Holiday to Pittsburgh, This article is about our next five days in New York City. We flew from Pitt to LGA on July 7 and flew back to IAH in Houston from JFK International Airport on the evening of July 11. So please read on our third trip to New York, the city of dreams and the city that never sleeps!
We like New York, or rather, my oldest son likes to visit New York. So far, we have visited New York three times. The first visit was in 2004, when my elders had just turned one year old and we lived in Delaware. At that time we visited Niagara Falls and Times Square. The next visit was in 2014 (10 years later), when my father-in-law came to visit us from India. We drove from Houston to New York, more than 1,600 miles, and it took us two days to get there. We like road trips, which is not a big problem. If you are interested, please read This post about us Road trip experience. If everyone in the family feels the same way, then road trips are fun and enjoyable. We just stopped and drove for more than 12 hours on the first and second nights, and we were able to reach New York City before midnight the next day. The third trip is the first time to fly to New York. In general, this is a wonderful vacation in the longest time we have not traveled for 18 months! So please read on how we explore New York City.
The first day of exploring New York
We flew from Pittsburgh to LaGuardia Airport around noon on July 7. We booked a four-night stay at the Hyatt Centrica in Times Square. Our room is on the 22nd floor facing Times Square. Here are a few photos I clicked from the hotel room. The background is midnight lights.
Of course, the first thing we did was time Square. In the evening, we visited central Park A few hours ended the day of Italian dinner-pasta with Alfredo and Marilla sauce. Lunch at the airport, we have a good rest in the evening, ready to take a walk in the city the next day.
Day 2
We visited the next day altitude and Brooklyn Heights Promenade. We also travel long distances Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. It’s fun to walk Dumbo, The representative is under the Manhattan Bridge. We also went to Jane Carousal, where the city view was beautiful. Our shopping at Forever 21 and H&M ended the day. Dinner is Indian cuisine, lunch is Shake Shack, and falafel is an evening snack. We tried to continue exploring different cuisines during this trip, the first stop in Pittsburgh, the second stop in New York.
Day 3
The New York City subway system is the largest subway system in the world, with 468 train stations and 26 subway lines! We take the subway from Grand Central And take the ferry to Coney IslandAnd then to Staten IslandThe children spent some time on the beach of Coney Island and took several roller coaster rides. Lunch is pizza from a local vendor, and dinner is Mexican food.
Coney Island is a block in New York City with an amusement area that includes 50 or more independent rides and attractions; it is not a centralized amusement park like Disneyland or Six Flags. You can read more here.
Day 4
We visited the Bronx Museum, the park and took the subway to explore again The Queen garden. The subway goes back to Grand Central Station from Manhattan. Lunch is Burger King in Queens, managed by a Desi woman. She is very friendly and very generous to us. Dinner is a Mediterranean dinner in Cava.Later in the evening, we went Empire State Building. Surprisingly, there is no long line and we saw the amazing view from the top. The only wait was due to rain and thunder around midnight, so we had to wait to go out because the door was temporarily locked for safety reasons. The weather is cold and drizzle, but all this is worth waiting and experiencing.
The Empire State Building was designed to be the world’s first building with more than 100 stories, and construction began on March 17, 1930. The construction took a record 1 year and 45 days to complete. You can read more about it hereThe Empire State Building is a 102-story Art Deco skyscraper located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, USA. It was designed by Shreve, Lamb & Harmon and built between 1930 and 1931. Its name derives from the “state of empire”, a nickname for the state of New York.
Day 5
On the last day we went around United Nations Building and Chase TowerBecause my husband works in Chase in Houston. The JPMorgan Chase Tower is a 52-story skyscraper on Park Avenue in New York City. Had lunch at Nishida Bookstore, this is Japanese cuisine. I want to add that as vegetarians, we have limited food choices, but we always end up exploring and find something we like, which is great! Our flight back to Houston is at 7:30 in the evening. We checked out from the Hyatt Hotel at 11 AM, but returned at 4 PM to pick up our luggage and arrived at the airport at 5 PM. Arrived in Houston at around 10:30 in the evening and arrived home before midnight.

To sum up, my older people like to visit New York, this time we went to a different New York Borough Tour and explore. New York has five administrative districts, just like a small city in a big city. There are five in New York City—Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island—each with dozens of blocks, exuding its own local characteristics. You can click this to explore more Associate .
New York State is famous for New York City and the towering Niagara Falls. Since we have visited Niagara Falls and the Statue of Liberty twice (2004 and 2014), this time we explored New York City. Manhattan Island in New York City is home to the Empire State Building, Times Square, and Central Park. The Brooklyn Bridge connects Manhattan and Brooklyn. There are so many places to explore in this city, and our favorite is always Times Square.
Dear readers, we would be happy to hear from you. Have you been to New York? What is your favorite place to visit there? Please share any recent post-pandemic holiday details (if any)
