The United States is in a soaring “unnecessary dilemma” Coronavirus disease Top US infectious disease experts said on Sunday that these cases were caused by unvaccinated Americans and toxic delta variants.
“We went in the wrong direction,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, who described himself as “very depressed.”
He said that major government public health officials are “actively considering” recommendations to wear masks for vaccinations. In addition, Fauci said, booster shots may be recommended for people whose immune systems are suppressed.
Fauci, who also serves as the chief medical adviser to President Joe Biden, told CNN’s “State of the Union Address” that he participated in a dialogue about the guidelines for changing masks.
He pointed out that some local jurisdictions with soaring infection rates, such as Los Angeles County, have called on individuals to wear masks in public regardless of their vaccination status. Fauci said that these local regulations are in line with the recommendations of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that vaccinated people do not need to wear masks in public.
According to the CDC, nearly 163 million people (49% of the eligible U.S. population) have been vaccinated.
Fauci said: “This is mainly a problem faced by people who have not been vaccinated. That’s why we are there. We are actually pleading for people who have not been vaccinated to go out and get vaccinated.”
Fauci said that government experts are reviewing early data because they are considering whether to recommend booster shots for people who are vaccinated. He suggested that some of the most vulnerable people, such as organ transplants and cancer patients, “may be” recommended for booster injections.

He also praised Republicans, including the governor. Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas and Ron DeSantis of Florida, and Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, the second-ranked member of the House of Representatives, encouraged their voters to be vaccinated. Their state has one of the lowest vaccination rates in the country.
Fauci said: “What I really want to see is that in those areas where there is no vaccinations, more and more leaders come forward to speak out and encourage people to get vaccinated.”
