30 Affordable Smoothie Freezer Packs

Smoothie freezer packs have been popular for years, and for good reason! They're a great way to prepare a quick, nutritious breakfast in minutes. You can order pre-made smoothie packs through a subscription or buy them by the pack at most grocery stores.

We love smoothies and have tried and enjoyed a few smoothie bag options over the years, but ultimately they were too expensive. So we decided to make our own make-ahead smoothie. Giving you the best of both worlds, convenience and deliciousness without breaking the bank!

Let’s break down the math:

When first launched in 2018, our 30-Day Smoothie Kit cost just $46.33, or about $1.50 per smoothie! Now, based on our most recent calculations, all 30 packs of smoothies cost about $60-$70, or about $2 per smoothie.

A one-month subscription to Smoothie will probably cost you around $250+! Yes, there is definitely a convenience factor. However, if you make it yourself, you can control the ingredients and sweetness, and it's much cheaper.

Even after adjusting for costs, making your own smoothie bags is a great way to lower your grocery costs. Plus, you can make all 30 packs in an hour or less. We even timed it ourselves to make sure!

Tips for Making and Using Smoothie Packets

  • Where should I shop? We recommend purchasing fruit at a large store that offers organic frozen fruit, such as Costco, BJ's, or Trader Joe's. Amazon Fresh also has some good options for bulk fruit.
  • Want to reduce waste and save more money? Store your smoothie bags in Reusable freezer safe silicone bags! Then, instead of constantly buying disposable plastic freezer bags, you can just rinse them out and reuse them.
  • Want to speed up your preparation time? use bag opener Open the bags and create an assembly line to quickly fill each bag.
  • Label and date each smoothie bag using a label and/or marker. This is especially useful when meal prepping to help ensure you know what flavors you're making and that none of the packaging goes bad!
  • Got any leftover smoothie? We like to pour leftover smoothies into popsicle molds. You can then enjoy the frozen meal later. Smoothie popsicles are a big hit with the kids! Remember, smoothie bars are best consumed within a few days of making them.

FAQ

How long do smoothie bags stay fresh?

Freezer packs will keep for about a month. If you store them much longer than that, the bananas will start to turn brown and you'll know it's time to use them up right away!

Can I blend a smoothie and freeze it?

Technically, blended smoothies can be frozen for 1-2 days. However, we don't recommend it as the taste and texture may change. Smoothies are best eaten immediately!

Should I defrost frozen fruit before making smoothies?

As long as you have a high speed blender there is no need! Freezing the fruit will help create a thicker, creamier consistency.
