FW de Klerk “changed the course of history”: British Prime Minister

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson paid tribute to FW de Klerk, South Africa’s last white president, on Thursday, praising his key role in changing the country.

He said in a statement: “I am saddened by the death of FW de Clerk, who changed the course of history by freeing Nelson Mandela and working with him to end apartheid and bring democracy to South Africa.”

“De Klerk will be remembered for his steely courage and realism, when he is doing the obviously right thing and making South Africa a better country,” he added.
