There’s more than one way to kill a garden slug…instead of giving you a panacea, today I’m going to give you three easy ways to kill those slimy spoilers.

A few years ago we had a severe slug infestation in our garden and I had to act quickly. Now, if slugs attack, I’m ready.
Here are three ways to catch and kill truly effective garden slugs.
How to Kill Garden Slugs Method #1: Scrap Wood

An easy way to find slugs is to wet some scrap wood and place them on the ground at night.
The slugs are usually under them the next morning, sheltering from the sun.

Actually killing them now requires you to accept your hatred.
You can throw the slug into a bowl of soapy water and put Salt on them, or just go completely kinky and cut them into pieces with a knife or scissors.

If the slugs in your garden are really out of control, go out and buy yourself a few cheap beers.
Now, drink them all. After a few minutes, you will no longer be concerned about slug infestations.

Buy yourself some small bowls at night and keep them around the garden. Pour an inch or so of beer into the bottom of each. The next morning, there should be dead slugs in every bowl.
Look, slugs are nature’s alcoholics. They have a very sensitive sense of smell and will crawl into places where there is beer and drink themselves to death.
This method works very well in our garden. But we’ve also paired it with slug-killing method #3 for a complete defeat.

If you have mulch in your garden, slugs love it. They don’t like bare ground very much. Slugs and their cousin snails love many materials they can hide in. Bare ground can’t provide that. Raised beds with wood or stone borders also give them a place to hide. This is one of the reasons for making beds out of mounds, like this:
It is also cheaper than buying plates or blocks.
Also, mastering the slug problem will keep you from losing as many plants. Look for shiny paths and visibly gnawed areas around the garden – don’t wait to get started! Look around and kill before they eat your hard work.
If you have ducks, they like to eat slugs. Letting them hang out in the garden every now and then might work, although I don’t have enough confidence in the ducks to do so. It’s best to just pick garden slugs and toss them to the ducks.
You can also throw a bowl of beer and slugs into your compost pile. Slugs are composted just fine, and so is beer.
