Peel and gut them, preferably with the tail on for the best flavor. You can learn more about choosing shrimp on my website Garlic Butter Shrimp postal. Pat them dry with paper towels, this will allow them to soak up more of the marinade and keep the insides juicier while baking.
- unsalted butter – Butter adds flavor and helps bring the seasoning together. I use unsalted because it gives me more control over the salt, but you can use salted and reduce the amount of added salt by 1/8 tsp. You can also switch to olive or avocado oil if you prefer.
- lemon juice – Helps tenderize the shrimp so they are less stretchy and mask any “fishy smell”. You can also add 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of lemon zest if you like a tangy lemon flavor.
- spices – include smoked paprikasea salt, black pepper, garlic powder (or canned minced garlic instead), and crushed red pepper flakes (optional, add more if you want it spicy).
