Harvey Weinstein Pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape and seven other counts of sexual assault in a Los Angeles court on Wednesday.
The sheriff’s deputy took the 69-year-old rapist to the court and sat in a wheelchair. He is wearing a brown prison jumpsuit and a mask. One day after Weinstein was extradited from New York to California, attorney Mark Workman pleaded for the humiliated movie tycoon, where he served 23 years in prison.
Weinstein just said “thank you” to Judge Sergio Tapia, and he wished him luck at the end of the hearing.
He is now awaiting the second trial on the second coast and the possibility of another long-term verdict.
Weinstein’s indictment concerns incidents involving five women between 2004 and 2013. It is said that most of the incidents occurred in hotels in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles, where Weinstein of New York will set up his Hollywood business headquarters in these hotels. Some happened during Oscar Week, before the #MeToo movement disappointed him, his films were perennial contenders.
He pleaded not guilty to four counts of rape, four counts of forcible oral sex, two counts of restraint assault, and one count of sexual assault by force, all of which together could be sentenced to 140 years in prison.
Werksman told the judge that he was submitting documents requesting the dismissal of three of the allegations, saying that these allegations exceeded the statute of limitations.
Talking about the allegations after the hearing, Workman said: “They are baseless, come from a long time ago, and have not been confirmed.” “We are confident that if we get a fair trial, he will be acquitted.”
The indictment did not determine the identity of these women.
The lawyer representing the two of them, Gloria Allred, said that the time of the incident was not a factor in determining the truth.

“Allegations of sexual assault and rape do take a long time to report, so the idea that they may not disclose to law enforcement officials for years does not mean that these allegations are not credible,” Allred said.
The terms for Weinstein’s extradition require his trial to begin in November. Werksman said Weinstein has not waived this right. But it is unusual for the trial to begin so soon. Weinstein will return to court next week for a motion hearing.
The New York jury ruled that Weinstein raped an aspiring actress in a Manhattan hotel room in 2013 and forcibly performed oral sex on a television and film production assistant in his Manhattan apartment in 2006.
He is appealing the conviction and seeking a new trial. Weinstein insisted on his innocence and argued that any sexual activity is consensual.
The Los Angeles prosecutor first charged Weinstein in January 2020, just as the jury selection process for the New York City case was underway.
More charges were added later this year, and in March, he was indicted by a grand jury in Los Angeles County. The indictment was opened by a judge on Wednesday, but the allegations in it are basically the same as those already disclosed in previous criminal proceedings.
The pandemic and procedural delays mean that Weinstein’s extradition will take more than a year. His lawyers mentioned that his health was deteriorating because they tried to imprison him in a state prison near Buffalo, New York, until the Los Angeles trial began jury selection.
At Wednesday’s hearing, Wexman asked for a health check on Weinstein. He said outside the court that he was particularly worried about Weinstein’s vision.
“He is blind in one of his eyes,” the lawyer said.

The allegations in Los Angeles came from a task force aimed at addressing sexual misconduct in Hollywood because #MeToo gained momentum.
Weinstein and pornographic performer Ron Jeremy are one of the few people indicted by the team. The team refused to prosecute more than 20 celebrities because the allegations against them were too old or unsubstantiated.
