Tips for the best roasted asparagus

Want to know how to make truly amazing asparagus on the grill? Remember the following tips:

  • Thicker asparagus is easier to grill. This is because they are not easy to overcook, and you can get a good char while maintaining a crispy texture. However, any thickness will do! If your spears are thin, baking the asparagus in foil may be better.
  • Apply oil thoroughly. The oil prevents the asparagus from scorching (and helps to form perfect grill marks), so make sure that each spear is completely coated.
  • Change your seasoning. I like the simple roasted asparagus seasoning, just add salt, pepper and garlic powder, but feel free to try other spices, such as chili powder, Italian seasoning, Lemon pepper to taste, Or onion powder. You can garnish with fresh herbs, sprinkle it with grated hard cheese, or even use olive oil, lemon juice, salt and pepper to make grilled asparagus marinade.
  • The skewers make flipping easier. If you grill asparagus without foil, but worry that it will fall from the grate, or want to make it easier to turn over, you can string the asparagus onto 2 rows of bamboo skewers. Arrange 4-6 spears in a row, cross across the bottom half, and then across the top half again. (I usually skip the effort of this extra step, but it does make flipping easier!)

tip: If you use this method, soak your kebabs. Soak them in water for at least 1 hour before grilling to prevent them from catching fire.

  • Poke cooked. If you are not sure how long to roast on the grill based on the size of the asparagus, please poke it with a fork. If it’s tender, it’s time to leave the grill.
