The World Health Organization and the European Union’s disease agency warned on Friday that free testing, contact tracing and other measures are needed to combat the Covid-19 Delta variant, which is reflected in the dominant position in most of Europe.
WHO Europe and the European Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ECDC) have jointly called on European countries to “strengthen their efforts” to check the spread of the highly contagious delta variant first discovered in India.
The joint statement said: “WHO recommends that countries increase free testing opportunities, expand the scope of sequencing, encourage the isolation of contacts and isolate confirmed cases, strengthen contact tracing to break the chain of transmission and ensure that the most at-risk people in our population are vaccinated. .”Say.

It said that data reported to WHO and ECDC showed that between June 28 and July 11, Delta variants dominated 19 of the 28 countries that reported sufficient complete gene sequencing information.
According to a survey by Agence France-Presse, the number of global cases surged by 9% this week. Stimulated by the Delta variant, Europe increased by 26% and the United States increased by 60%.
ECDC, which tracks 27 EU countries and 3 non-EU countries, stated that it has lowered its focus on the European pandemic from low to medium, and has shown high levels of attention to four countries: Spain, Portugal, Malta and Cyprus.
