Internet outage hits banks, streaming sites and PlayStation Network

Large-scale internet outages have led to streaming websites, bank Even PlayStation Network is offline.

The mysterious internet outage affected many online services starting around 5pm GMT.

Down detector, An online power outage tracker, recorded thousands of reports in a matter of minutes.

It seems to mainly affect websites in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The PlayStation Network—the service that allows PS4 and PS5 users to play online games—is one of the most noticeable outages, with dozens of users complaining online.

Interruption means that the player cannot log in and play the game.

British banking websites have also been affected-including HSBC, Halifax Bank, Barclays Bank, TSB, Tesco Bank, Lloyds Bank and Bank of Scotland.

In the United States, USBank, American Express and CapitalOne all fell.

Certain retailers-including John Lewis and Argos-also appeared to have experienced a decline at certain times on Thursday night.

Some reports indicate that Amazon Web Services or Content Delivery Network (CDN) may have failed to cause output.

However, Amazon denies that the network service is related to the outage.
