Internship at the Sustainable Investment Center in the fall of 2021
CCSI is a leading applied research center and forum dedicated to the research, practice and discussion of sustainable international investment. Our mission is to develop and disseminate practical methods and solutions to maximize the impact of international investment on sustainable development. The center’s work is organized around three main research areas: sustainable investment in mining and energy; sustainable investment in land, agriculture and food systems; and sustainable international investment laws and policies; And finance.
Unless otherwise stated, candidates must commit at least 10-15 hours a week. Subsequent terms can continue to be used, and in some cases are preferred.
The fall 2021 internship opportunities are currently available for the following projects (possibly remote):
internship: Responsible and rights-respecting land investment
CCSI seeks JD, LL.M or other graduate students (or aggressive and outstanding undergraduates) to support the center’s research and consulting work on responsible and rights-respecting land investment. The internship will involve working closely with senior staff on priority projects that require research, analysis, and writing. These projects may include supporting and providing resources for the development of innovative responses to communities or governments, the private sector (including development financial institutions, ESG investors, and renewable energy companies) and other stakeholders in the context of specific countries. Preference will be given to candidates with strong research and writing skills. Need to understand the knowledge or experience of issues related to responsible land investment, land rights, government decisions related to investment, and/or community rights in the context of resource investment. French is also preferable.
Internship (paid or credits): Align the food sector with the sustainable development goals
CCSI is seeking graduate students to support its work to align the practices of food industry companies with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This work will include research and analysis related to the various ways in which companies (especially the food industry) influence the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. Research topics range from nutrition, health and environmental sustainability to human rights and corporate governance (including taxation practices and lobbying). The interns will work closely with CCSI researchers, including the project leader, the food department, and the sustainability goals.Preference will be given to students with the following conditions Strong research and writing skills. Familiarity with the food sector and corporate responsibilities is a plus. This internship can be completed as course credits or as a paid internship.
internship: Sustainable Finance Arabic Researcher
CCSI seeks law or policy graduate students (or aggressive and outstanding undergraduates) to support the center’s research and consulting work related to sustainable finance. In particular, the research will support the analysis of the consistency of Islamic finance with “ESG investment” and other selected sustainable financial frameworks. Researchers will also support broader research on how to evaluate, select, and shape investments or projects to meet sustainable development goals, as well as the tools that governments can use to support such policies. The internship will involve close cooperation with senior staff and center directors in research, analysis and event organization. Highly recommend sustainable finance knowledge. This work requires speaking and reading in Arabic.
