The Northwest Museum of Legends and Lore, home to the Bruce Lee fan club in Seattle, will submit a formal application to the City of Seattle Landmarks Preservation Commission to nominate Bruce Lee’s first official martial arts studio for historic preservation.
The 40-page nomination application will be announced at a press conference on September 30 in the Bertha Knight Landes conference room of Seattle City Hall. Held from 4pm to 5pm and will be open to the public.
Andy Kimura, son of Bruce Lee’s first students Taiji Kimura, and other martial artists are expected to attend.
The 4750 University Road Apartments is home to the Seattle Military Academy Kung Fu Academy, which houses rare photos of Bruce Lee.
Given the history and official beginnings of Bruce Lee’s martial arts teaching at this location, the Seattle Bruce Lee Fan Club considers this one of Seattle’s most culturally valuable properties.
If designated as a landmark, the status will help protect the property from demolition.
