JetWing Blue Negombo Junior Suite: Shore Retreat

Jetwing Blue Negombo has a fascinating and exclusive world of adventure waiting for you, whether you decide to explore the town or beyond.

Negombo is a quiet beach village less than an hour’s drive from Colombo and a 30-minute drive from Bandaranaike International Airport. The main attraction of sprawling Negombo is its proximity to the international airport, which is only 10 km away. As a result, tourists like me arrive here after traveling through Sri Lanka and stop at one of the beach hotels as their last stop before returning home. However, Negombo is a better place to experience Sri Lanka than Colombo, with a plethora of hotels, friendly locals, a charming historic district and a beautiful beach to spend your time!

A few miles south of the beach, the town of Negombo offers a unique perspective on Sri Lankan coastal life, with a touch of old-world colonial elegance, delightful fish markets and plenty of colourful wooden boats.

JetWing Blue Negombo

Negombo’s Jetwing Blue drew me to their nostalgic shores to begin my own story, as every wave of the eternal Indian Ocean tells a story of the past. Made me feel at home, Jetwing Blue Negombo even shared with me the charm of the island through their exquisite meals. After all, don’t we all want to live in a hotel in a new country and be hugged and treated like a local?

Jetwing Gamble Terrace

On this coastline nearly 50 years ago, the hotel brand Jetwing was founded by a Sri Lankan family who came to life in a quaint beach house. The qualities of enthusiasm, humility, honesty and perseverance that have inspired the world of luxury on this tropical island ever since. Jetwing Blue has been a pioneer in several sustainable initiatives that ensure their unwavering commitment to protecting the environment and improving communities. In fact, Jetwing Blue Negombo is the first hotel in the Jetwing Blue family to build an off-grid solar photovoltaic system, a sewage treatment plant and even an on-site glass bottling plant.

Junior Ocean Front Deluxe Suite

Jetwing Blue’s luxurious accommodation (the first Jetwing hotel and the only 5-star hotel in Negombo) complements Sri Lankan hospitality. Each of Jetwing Blue’s 21 Grand Deluxe rooms and 6 suites are luxurious and spacious areas for your comfort. Given that all the main suites are booked for the wedding, I can only manage one club junior suite with palm-fringed ocean views. Palm trees blocked the view, but I could still see the ocean in the distance, and could hear the sound of the waves through my spacious room.

From its private balcony, my Junior Suite 219 has stunning views of the coast, while the interior echoes the hotel’s simultaneous essence in a typical blue and white design. Junior Suites also feature twin bathrooms with luxurious bathtubs and rain showers, as well as various other modern conveniences such as satellite TV, minibars and free WIFI. Jetwing Blue’s suites are very spacious and very welcoming, the ultimate treat on a sunny beach.

Beautifully designed with a contemporary aesthetic, the luxurious oceanfront suites complement the stunning ocean views and include every modern necessities you need, in addition to personalised butler service for the hospitality for which Jetwing is renowned. Two swimming pools, in-house boutiques, a spa and an 800-seat ballroom make up its additions.

kitchen

While I prefer to order food in my room, I couldn’t help but indulge in “The Kitchen”, the open kitchen at Jetwing Negombo, themed around different spices, with a separate dining area. Jetwing Blue’s kitchen is sure to whet your appetite, highlighted by the harsh smell of the open kitchen. Order from their extensive à la carte menu or enjoy a spectacular buffet as you watch your food being prepared; make you feel right at home.

Jetwing Blue Kitchen

I dined at this luxurious and spacious beachfront restaurant, all with stunning views of the coastline and the Indian Ocean beyond. Here my taste buds were treated, a variety of Eastern and Western cuisines and everything in between. My favourites are the curry mud crab, grilled prawns, roast lamb and desserts.

Swing seat in the pool

Another reason I believe this hotel is a year-round attraction is its lovely pool with swing seats in the shallows. Even if you’re not a swimmer, you can spend hours on a swing chair and enjoy the view of the ocean. Seats face the Indian Ocean and the pool offers views of the coastline for added pleasure. If you are planning a beach holiday, WFH, corporate meeting with your family, or if you are a solo traveler like me who is looking for peace and quiet away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world, this hotel is ideal for you.

Negombo Attractions

Scenic Negombo attracts tourists mainly because of its proximity to the international airport. Many travelers stay at one of the beach hotels after a tiring flight, or make Negombo their last stop before heading home. It is also an ideal Sri Lankan city for honeymoons and families due to its fascinating attractions. A few miles south of the capital, the town offers a glimpse into coastal life in Sri Lanka. You will fall in love with Negombo and learn about the local culture. Negombo’s main attractions are the lagoon, fishing village, Kelaniya Buddhist Temple, Dutch Fort, St Mary’s Church, Beach, Dutch Clock Tower and Hamilton Canal. Negombo is also the largest fishing village in the country. Besides tourism, it is also known for producing cinnamon.
