Kelsey Mitchell (Kelsey Mitchell) won a gold medal for Canada after finishing first in the women’s track cycling women’s sprint final.
The 27-year-old Mitchell won the 24th medal for Canada at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics-the most medals won at the non-boycotted Summer Olympics. The first place also marks Canada’s seventh gold medal in Tokyo.
The victory of Mitchell from Sherwood City, Alta Provincial Park also marked the last medal that Canada won at the Olympics.
Mitchell previously won the sprint gold medal at the 2019 Pan American Games and set the women’s 200-meter sprint world record at the Pan American Athletics Cycling Championships in the same year.

Ukraine’s Olena Starikova won the silver medal. Mitchell defeated her in two back-to-back preliminaries to win the championship. Hong Kong player Li Weishi won the bronze medal.
