Sunisa “Suni” Lee made history-she will become the first Hmong American to represent the United States in the Olympic Games.

Li won the runner-up in the Olympic trials on June 27th, thus securing her place in the women’s gymnastics team. Her total score is 115.832, second only to Simone Bayer’s 118.098.

“Unreal. I am very honored and lucky to have the opportunity to represent the US team in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. This is a dream come true, but this is just the beginning,” Li wrote on Instagram.

According to a report by USA Today, she is the first gymnast to beat Byers at any stage of the all-around competition since 2013.

She scored 15.300 points in the first day of training, leading the balance beam competition, and won first place on the uneven bars.

Lee said, “Overall, this is a “very proud moment” because “I feel that all my hard work has paid off. “
