These projects will be the largest long-term Covid trials to date, recruiting more than 4,500 qualified people to test the effectiveness of existing drugs in treating long-lasting symptoms.

He said: “Long-term Covid will have severe and debilitating long-term effects on thousands of people across the UK, which can make daily life extremely challenging.
“This new research is absolutely necessary to improve diagnosis and treatment, and will change the lives of those struggling with the long-term symptoms of the virus.
