A Georgia man was recently sentenced to 25 years in prison for planning to kidnap his ex-wife to win her back.
According to a press release issued in Georgia, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office in Georgia confirmed that the man was 36-year-old Rodney William Metzer. FacebookMetzer admitted that “14 charges were related to assaulting his ex-wife, including kidnapping, beating, threatening her with a pistol, and tying her up with homemade zipper handcuffs,” the press release said.
Metzer was arrested after an incident that took place at Metzer’s ex-wife’s house on January 1. The district attorney’s office said that officers in the sheriff’s office received a 911 call around 2 am.
When the police officer talked to Mei Ze, he said that he had just arrived at the residence and found his ex-wife lying on the deck with a pillowcase on his head with a zipper. The press release stated that officials initially thought Mei Ze was “a worrying family member,” but investigators found a very different story from what Mei Ze told them.
The press release stated that before the January 1 incident, Meisel tried to restore the relationship with his ex-wife, but was rejected by the ex-wife, prompting him to wear a mask and show guns to break into her house.
“When he talked to her, he concealed his voice. He hit her with a rifle butt and tried to strangle her twice. He tied her hand with a zipper, beat her, and put a pillowcase on her head And then drag her to the deck,” the press release said. It added that Meze told his ex-wife that if she was removed from the deck, she would be shot.
Mezel then went back to his residence, changed clothes, and returned to his ex-wife’s house, when he called the police.
The District Attorney’s Office stated that “the evidence in this case is very important,” because the Cherokee County Sheriff found a pistol in Merser’s apartment and a zipper that matched the one found on his ex-wife.
In addition, investigators saw Metzer carrying a bandage in the surveillance video when leaving the local Lowe’s store.
Metzer’s mobile phone and laptop search history revealed to investigators that the topics he searched included “how long before starving to death, how to change the sound of the voice, and how long it takes to suffocate someone to lose consciousness”.
Rachel Ashe, the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case, called Metzel a “master of manipulation.”
“In the days before this attack, he falsified a cancer diagnosis in an attempt to obtain sympathy from his ex-wife. When this didn’t work, he made a puzzling plan that both the investigators of the case and our office thought it was. Involved in one of them killing her and then his own conspiracy,” Ash said in a press release.
“When he was unable to implement that plan, he instead devised a new plan to rescue her. Fortunately, investigators from the Sheriff’s Office saw through this plan and quickly arrested the defendant,” she said.
According to the District Attorney’s Office, Messer was sentenced by Judge Anthony Baker to 70 years in prison, with 25 years in prison for the first 25 years, and 45 years suspended.
Weekly newspaper The district attorney’s office was contacted for further comments, but no response was received in time.
