His family said on Friday that British music photographer Mick Rock won the “70s Gunners” award for his iconic images of artists such as David Bowie and Sex Pistols. Nickname, at the age of 72.
His family said in a message posted on his Twitter page: “We share with the heaviest heart that our beloved psychedelic traitor Mick Rock has embarked on Jung’s journey to the other side.”
“He is a photographic poet-a true force of nature, he does what he likes to do every day, always in his own pleasant way.
“He is a mythical creature; we will never meet such a person again.”
The guitarist Johnny Marr of the British independent band The Smiths tweeted “Goodbye, my friend and comrade Mick Rock. This visionary poet”, and attached photos of the two.
Locke was born in West London in 1948 and graduated from the prestigious Cambridge University with a degree in medieval and modern languages.
He became interested in photography while in college and filmed local performances.
Rock continues to produce album covers for American rock legends Lou Reed and Iggy Pop and country star Waylon Jennings.
