Missouri County overturned mask authorization one day after its entry into force

The mask-wearing rule in a Missouri county will be repealed the day after its board of directors voted to repeal the new face-covering rule.

The St. Louis County Council voted 5 to 2 on Tuesday to abolish the mask-wearing rule that was implemented on Monday. St. Louis Post and CNN Report.

This authorization, implemented by St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page and St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones, requires people over five years of age to wear face masks in indoor public places and public transportation in St. Louis City and County.

Page explained the task at a press conference on Monday, saying: “For the vaccinated person, this may feel like punishment, a punishment for doing the right thing.

“I’ve heard about it and I’m very frustrated. Although vaccination can prevent serious illness, it cannot protect you from COVID-19 and spread it to other people, who may be more vulnerable.”

Missouri’s Attorney General Eric Schmidt filed a lawsuit to try to prevent the enforcement of wearing masks. Several members of the county council opposed this measure. The opposition to the committee is led by Republican Congressman Tim Fitch.

Before the meeting on Tuesday night, Fitch told Missouri News 4: “Why are we not brought into the loop and why we haven’t had the opportunity to comment on this? I represent 142,000 people, and the vast majority don’t want masks. The vast majority. On their behalf, I should be able to speak for them.”

Democrat Lisa Clancy (Lisa Clancy) told News 4 that a legal opinion stated that the authorization to wear masks was valid and called for politics to be excluded from the decision.

Clancy said before the meeting: “I hope we can remove politics from this matter and focus on our community members, especially those who cannot be vaccinated.”

“I’m sitting next to my 7-week-old baby, and I also have a 5-year-old. The children in my community are especially at risk right now, and we really need to take this into consideration.”

According to CNN, Page did not directly resolve the matter when he delivered a speech after the vote, but he did urge wearing a mask.

“It’s easy to wear a mask, and It will have a big impact,” Page said. “I hope more people get vaccinated, but we are not like this now.

A Page’s spokesperson told News 4 that the county governor will respond to this decision at a press conference on Wednesday.

Weekly newspaper Page has been asked for further comment.

The authorization still applies to the city of St. Louis, while the state of Missouri In terms of new COVID-19 cases per capita, it now ranks fourth in the country, According to data collected by the Johns Hopkins University Systems Science and Engineering Center.
