Why you’ll love this mistletoe margarita
One of my husband’s favorite drinks is a margarita. So I became a margarita expert. I’m always looking for ways to make them festive while keeping them fresh, crisp and vibrant.Cases and points are mine White Christmas Margarita – It looks like Christmas in a glass, but tastes like a tropical drink, with hints of coconut and lime juice. This Mistletoe Margarita is no exception!
- balanced: This margarita is the perfect balance of tart and sweet, with cranberry flavor in every sip, making it super smooth.
- festival: What better reason to look super trendy with a drink than during the holidays? This margarita is so pretty, decorated with sugar rims, candied sparkling cranberries, and the greens of lime slices and rosemary!
- Pitcher Recipe: There are two different recipes, the individual cocktail recipe if you only want to make one, or the large pitcher recipe if you’re a host and want to make enough for a crowd.
- Foolproof: There’s nothing complicated about this margarita. Just pour, stir or shake! It’s that simple!
what do you need
You don’t need a detailed list of ingredients to make a delicious cocktail. Simple is best, and this Mistletoe Margarita has just 5 ingredients, plus those fun, must-have garnishes. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for exact quantities.
- Agave: I love using reposado to make this margarita.
- Cointreau: It’s an orange wine that adds sweetness and a nice orange flavor.
- Lime juice: Fresh is always best.
- Cranberry juice: That’s why your margarita gets that fun red hue and sour flavor!
- Agave Nectar: If your margarita isn’t sweet enough for you, just add a splash of agave to make it sweeter.
Mistletoe Margaret Decoration:
None of this is mandatory. I find that we eat and drink with our eyes first, so I like to make things look pretty.
- Rosemary sprigs: This won’t add any flavor, but it will bring a fun Christmas cheer.
- Lime slices: for color and extra lime flavor.
- Sweetened Cranberries: You simply roll frozen cranberries into white sugar to make them sparkle, then add them to your margarita for a fun sparkle. The cranberries don’t have any flavor, although you might get a slightly sweeter margarita from the sugar melted into the cocktail.
What is the best tequila for a mistletoe margarita?
Reposado is my favorite margarita to use. It has a smooth flavor and isn’t too harsh to bite, so it pairs perfectly with the cranberry and lime juice to really let those flavors shine through. Here are my favorite reposado brands:
- don julio
- friend’s home
- branch line

Tips and variations
One of the best things about cocktails is that you can get creative and make them your own!
- Add rims: Dip rim of glass into lime juice or water. It’s then dipped in salt, tagine, sugar or made into a fun lime-sugar concoction.
- Enhance rosemary: Light the tip of the rosemary with a match or lighter, let it burn for 5 seconds, then blow out. Add it to your cocktails for a smoky version of a mistletoe margarita.
- To make it lather: Pour sparkling water over the margarita to intensify the flavor and create some bubbles.
- Remove alcohol: You can use Anejo Tequila instead of Reposada. Likewise, you can use Triple Sec or Grand Marnier instead of Cointreau.
- To make a mojito margarita: Add 2-3 fresh lime leaves and mix them into the glass for a Mistletoe Mojito Margarita!
- To make it freeze: Pour cocktail into blender and add 1 cup ice. Blend until smooth to make frozen margaritas!
