A new tool from LinkedIn lets you find the top skills employers want candidates to have for almost any job role.
Additionally, if you need a skill and don’t have it, the tool will guide you to resources that can be used to develop that skill.
LinkedIn’s Future of Skills data tool will show you how job requirements have changed from 2015 to 2021.
According to a recent analysis by LinkedIn, the top skills for specific roles changed by about 25% from 2015 to today, and could increase to 40% by 2025.
Here’s how to use LinkedIn’s new tools to discover the skills you need to be a standout candidate when applying for your next job.
Alternatively, this tool can be used to keep your skills up to date, increasing your value in your current role.

You will also get the following analytics:
- How much has the top skill changed?
- Which top skills are new
- Which top skills are the same
- Which top skills are rising or falling in importance

This means that more employers are looking for candidates with these skills today than in 2015.

Suppose you don’t have all the skills. For example, maybe you have almost all of them, but you are not familiar with SEMrush.
What you can do now is click on SEMrush and LinkedIn will take you to select the relevant course of study.

After that, you need to pay a monthly fee to take the course, or you can pay for a single course and access it anytime.
anyhow
LinkedIn’s Future Of Skills tool is a comprehensive resource of top-level skills that candidates in almost any industry or role need.
It can also be used by employers if they are hiring for a position and aren’t sure what skills to look for.
This is probably the most valuable collection of data LinkedIn has on top job skills.
LinkedIn regularly publishes annual reports on top jobs and job skills, but they never contain as much data as you can find with the Future of Skills tool.
