The luxury watch market is hotter than ever, surviving the early days of the pandemic and surpassing pre-pandemic numbers last year. This swiss watch industry federation (FH) reports that watch exports hit a record high of $21 billion in 2021. Global revenue from watches and jewellery at French luxury goods company (and owner of Louis Vuitton) LVMH Group rose from $4.8 million in 2019 to $10.4 million in 2021.

The demographics behind this growth: mostly millennials and Gen Z.

“Owning a watch has become more important in the last five years for millennials and Gen Z, and less important for older generations because presumably most baby boomers and Gen Xers have owns one or more watches,” according to Deloitte Swiss Watch Industry Study 2021“As Millennials and Gen Z gain more purchasing power, they are the generation most interested in watches.”

Louis Vuitton Already one of the most popular luxury brands in the world and one of the most coveted brands for millennials and Gen Z buyers. The brand’s new watch promises to increase that dominance.

The Tambour Spin Time Air Quantum is a 42.5mm three-dimensional work of art/functional timepiece with a black titanium case and neon yellow accents. Twelve yellow fused silica cubes surround the perimeter, spelling out Louis Vuitton (another brand reminder, the LV monogram, in the center of the dial.).

Over time, each cube rotates to show the hour. Pressing the crown of the self-winding watch activates 12 hidden battery-powered LED lights. This time it illuminates the entire bioluminescence-inspired display for three seconds – and causes a spectacle that proves the Tambour Spin Time Air Quantum is much more than an update to the original Tambour Spin Time circa 2009.

“After 12 years of improvements to our patented Spin Time, we decided to take a risk on an unprecedented technical challenge,” said Jean Arnault, Louis Vuitton Marketing and Development Director Watch, in a statement. “Not only is the Tambour Spin Time Air Quantum an awe-inspiring horological feat, it’s a unique and disruptive complex hybrid watch that combines the best of both mechanical and electronic realms in the service of legibility and design.”

Developed by Louis Vuitton’s Geneva factory, La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, by Louis Vuitton’s master watchmaker Michel Navas, the Tambour Spin Time Air Quantum has a 35-hour power reserve and a 50-meter base water-proof. . It comes with a rubber or alligator leather strap.
