North Korean state media said on Thursday that senior officials will meet in Pyongyang to try to revive the economy that has been weakened by the pandemic.
The pandemic border blockade has caused shortages in this authoritarian country, which has also suffered from years of financial mismanagement. The conference will be held on September 28 to discuss in-depth issues such as economic development, youth education, and government organization matters. Associated Press reports.
Since 2019, when President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un failed to reach an agreement on denuclearization, relations between the United States and North Korea have been strained.
Since then, Kim Jong Un closed the nuclear decision, and he refused to conduct nuclear diplomatic negotiations because of the “hostile” policy of the United States.
Government meetings usually include approving budgets, formalizing personnel changes, and putting rubber stamps on Kim Jong Un’s policy priorities. At the last meeting in January, Kim Jong Un vowed to build his nuclear arsenal and seek economic development plans for the next five years.
