Nova Systems to establish Australia’s first Centre of Excellence to support sovereign defence capabilities


Nova Systems will invest $2 million to establish Australia’s first Test and Evaluation Centre of Excellence – a central hub supporting sovereign defence capabilities and cutting-edge research, digital technologies, training and ideas.

Nova Systems CEO Jim McDowell announced the concept today at the SETE 2022 conference in Canberra.

The center will bring together defense, industry and academia to provide comprehensive joint force test and evaluation (T&E) and capability assurance.

The Nova Systems Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a national program that will support the delivery of true sovereign – Australian-controlled – T&E capabilities to the Australian Defence Force, thereby providing the Australian Defence Force with secure, fit-for-purpose capabilities.Men and women we serve Deliver operational results.

Nova Systems T&E CoE will:

  • Support the accelerated development of emerging technologies such as digital twins and synthetic technologies.
  • Enable collaboration across industry and academia to develop sovereign and enduring T&E capabilities.
  • Ensuring the long-term sustainability of Australia’s T&E workforce.
  • Provide innovation and R&D activities.
  • Offers T&E practitioner training and specialized short courses.
  • Dispatch subject matter experts in the T&E field to disseminate in-depth knowledge through training, conferences, seminars, concepts and papers.

There is also space for a technology incubator aimed at creating a national and international focus on the development of new digital tools and competency assurance methods – ‘Assure Tech’ or ‘Assuretech’.
