Shepard is the co-founder and executive director of the nonprofit We act for environmental justice And has a long history of organizing and engaging North Manhattan residents in community-based programming and events that address local and national environmental protection and environmental health policies.
In announcing the news to the Columbia climate community, founding dean Alex Halliday said: “This will be the first commencement ceremony for the Columbia Climate School, and I can’t think of a more fitting speech than Peggy Shepard. to celebrate the achievements of our students and send them for future endeavors.”
