The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) will hold its first face-to-face briefing Coronavirus disease According to a statement from the agency and Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Theresa Tam, there has been a pandemic since the federal elections were held on August 15.
The news of the forthcoming face-to-face briefing on Friday, September 3, was released a few days after a source told Global News on Wednesday that the agency does not plan to hold any face-to-face health updates at least until the end of the election.
The source said that the federal COVID-19 briefing will stop during the election.Relevant experts
Tan said in a weekly statement sent on Friday that she will personally provide updates on the latest COVID-19 epidemiological model at the briefing next week.
Shortly before the election, PHAC switched to a weekly press release instead of the usual on-site briefings. The source told Global News at the time that the agency’s position at the briefing may change.

When asked before about the next face-to-face update, PHAC told Global News that the agency will continue to “closely monitor Canada’s COVID-19 activities” and will include updates to the pandemic model in Tan’s “September written statement” March 2021. “
Experts told Global News earlier this week that the decision not to hold any face-to-face updates made them worried and disappointed about the political nature of this decision.

“Daily face-to-face updates are very important,” said Jessica Mudry, chair of the School of Professional Communication at Ryerson University.
“Public Health Canada should not talk about politics. They should talk about public health.”
