Tibayan, MD, PhD, FCPC, DPSMID, who told us that monkeypox is indeed a virus that can be acquired through close contact with an infected person.
In the Philippines, a fourth case of monkeypox has been identified, two of whom have no travel history to infected countries. Therefore, the alert status has been raised due to the potential threat of community transmission.
If you have skin-to-skin contact with an infected person and use or exchange blankets, pillows, towels or clothing with someone who has monkeypox or exchange of bodily fluids, you can become infected, Dr. Tibayan said.
Therefore, it is best to get tested as soon as you have close contact with a positive patient. Isolate yourself and don’t mix your clothes and bedding and anything you use personally with other people.
The tests they do are similar to Covid-19 RT-PCR and swab tests, but many people who are determined to be positive are not tested until it is too late. It’s too late, meaning the visibility of a rash on the skin (like a mall pox) is already apparent.
