The latest weekend stimulus plan comes as the number of new Covid-19 cases reported daily in the UK climbed above 50,000 for the first time in six months.
On July 16, the government reported a total of 51,870 cases, which is the highest number since January 15, when 55,761 cases were reported.
The latest total is still well below the peak of the second wave of viruses, with 68,053 cases reported on January 8.
However, these numbers are showing a clear upward trend, with the average daily number of cases increasing by 35% every week.

“From high street shops to mosques and sports grounds, our outstanding staff and our outstanding volunteers are doing their best to ensure that people, especially young people, are more vulnerable to protection than ever before.”
People aged 18 or over are urged to go to the nearest walk-in center or make an appointment on the national reservation service website this weekend.
