Complete mobile application: QuickBooks Time gives you a mobile time tracking and timesheet application to capture, submit and approve time on the go. Mobile Scheduler makes it easy to update and share employee schedules, and the app is available on Google Play and the App Store.

Slight learning curve: For someone just getting started, some functions may be difficult to use and things may be more detailed. Overtime calculator and job cost features would benefit from itemized listings. QuickBooks Time isn’t terrible to use, but it could be improved.

Limited customer support: Customer support is usually professional and can help when needed. That said, phone and live chat support is only available Monday through Friday between 6AM and 6PM Pacific Time. Elsewhere you can find 24/7 support as standard.

Expensive double fees: QuickBooks Time charges a flat monthly fee in addition to a monthly fee per employee, which isn’t ideal for small businesses on a budget. Others in the market tend to charge for one rather than both – it’s expensive software, and the price isn’t as competitive.

QuickBooks Time Pricing and Options

The premium tier allows you to track your team’s time and attendance, and includes a mobile app with GPS, job scheduling, and unlimited live customer support. It costs $20 per month, plus $8 per user per month—the base fee includes one administrator. As of this writing, you can get started for just $10 per month, saving 50% for three months.

The base monthly fee includes data storage, account setup, webinars and tutorials.

The Elite tier is $40 per month, or $10 per user per month, and includes everything from the premium tier to mileage tracking, the ability to track project progress, timesheet signatures, geofencing, and more. You can save 50% on this tier for three months.

Both tiers are available with a free trial for 30 days—a reasonable amount of time to decide if it’s right for you. No credit card, contract or signature is required, and at the end of the trial you will need to enter your credit card information to keep your account functioning.

During the trial, you’ll get help setting up a QuickBooks Time account and provide supplemental training to your staff on how to use it. Also note that you can unsubscribe at any time.

So how did these plans come to be? They are a bit pricey compared to others. For example, Time Doctor’s first plan was $7 per user per month and included time tracking, unlimited screenshots, and activity tracking. There are no additional monthly fees like QuickBooks Time. For some, this will be a deal breaker.

While the integration with QuickBooks is beneficial, the extra cost of using QuickBooks Time makes it a service compared to other products on the market, and you’re basically paying more for the same functionality. Small businesses often have to budget carefully, so despite the solid overall performance of the software, this extra cost won’t be attractive.

The site contains valuable resources, including a Learning Resource Center with tools, webinars, tutorials, and FAQs. In other words, with a wealth of practical content, you won’t feel like you’re solving problems on your own.

With the QuickBooks Time mobile app, you’ll get a lot out of it. Whether you have cell coverage or not, you can clock in or out from your Android phone or iPhone. It’s worth mentioning that QuickBooks Time also works on tablets.

In the app, you can track labor estimates and actuals, view the status of each project and make adjustments on the fly, and create, edit, and publish scheduled jobs or shifts. Remember, QuickBooks Time records employee locations only when they go to work. For example, if geofencing is enabled, the app needs constant access to the employee’s location. What if none of your employees are available? You can simply schedule the assignment as unassigned and include any relevant details in the comments section provided. When someone is available, they automatically receive all the information, helping you save a lot of time.
