On Saturday, New York City ushered in the holiday season, and a 79-foot (24-meter) Norwegian spruce will become one of the most famous spruces in the world. Christmas tree, exist Rockefeller Center.
The 12-ton tree was trucked from Price’s home in Elkton, Maryland—this is the first time the tree has come from that state since the tradition began eight years ago. The lighting ceremony is scheduled to be held on December 1.
The spruce will be decorated with more than 50,000 multicolored lights, with a 900-pound (400 kg) star on top, 70 spikes, and 3 million crystals covered on it.
The tree was cut down on Thursday and removed by a crane on the Price property. Spruce, about 85 years old, stood near the family’s house. Devin and Julie Price told NBC’s “Today” program that they fear it will collapse in a storm.
“So we are very happy to bring it to New York City,” Devin Price said.

He told the Baltimore Sun that Erik Pauze, the chief gardener of the Rockefeller Center, discovered this year’s tree in March after going to a nursery in southern New Jersey to buy plants and deciding to drive in the area.
It is expected that this tree will remain until the beginning of January.
