The UK has approved the first such antibody treatment Coronavirus disease.
Ronapreve will be launched across the UK after it has been approved by the regulatory agencies for medicines and healthcare products (MHRA) on Friday.
Groundbreaking treatments can be administered by injection or intravenous injection, usually through a cannula into the vein.
The therapy consists of regeneration element/Roche, Use antibodies made by cloning unique white blood cells to prevent and treat coronavirus.
Health Minister Sajid Javid confirmed that the government is now “working simultaneously” with the NHS and expert clinicians to ensure that treatment can be extended to NHS patients as soon as possible.
He said: “Once it is proven safe and effective in our government-supported clinical trials, the UK is considered a world leader in identifying and launching life-saving treatments for Covid-19.”
“In addition to our world-renowned vaccination program and life-saving treatments dexamethasone and tocilizumab, this treatment will be an important addition to our response to Covid-19.”
Ronapreve takes action on the inner wall of the respiratory system by catching the coronavirus and preventing it from entering the cells in this part of the body.
Clinical trials have shown that the drug can be used to prevent and fight the coronavirus and reduce the possibility of hospitalization for infected people.
Interim Chief Quality and Access Officer Dr. Samantha Atkinson said: “We are pleased to announce the approval of another treatment that can be used to help save lives and prevent Covid-19.
“Ronapreve is the first drug used to treat Covid-19. After careful evaluation of the data by our expert scientists and clinicians, we are satisfied with the safety and effectiveness of this treatment.
“Without compromising quality, safety and effectiveness, the public can trust that MHRA has conducted a strong and thorough assessment of all available data.”
The approval was obtained after the MHRA conducted a thorough review of the evidence and the recommendations of the Human Medicines Committee, the government’s independent expert scientific advisory body.
It marks the UK’s first monoclonal antibody combination product for the prevention and treatment of acute Covid.
