Russian anti-tank shells debut in Egypt

Mango-M and Svinets-2 (Lead-2)

Rostec’s Technodinamika holding company unites major Russian ammunition developers and manufacturers to debut its cutting-edge high-performance 125mm tank shells, 3VBM23 Svinets-2 and 3VBM17 Mango-M, at the EDEX`21 Expo in Cairo.

Both rounds have APFSDS projectiles designed to defeat modern upgraded tanks equipped with complex composite armor, strip slats and explosive reactive armor.

Both Mango-M and Svinets-2 (Lead-2) took center stage in Technodinamilka’s shell display. According to the developers, their armor-piercing capabilities have increased by more than 20% compared to earlier versions. It is said that these bullets can ensure the defeat of almost all types of armored vehicles within a distance of more than two kilometers.

The 3VBM23 Svinets-2 bullet with the 3BM60 APFSDS projectile used in the modern 2A46M artillery can penetrate a 300 mm thick homogeneous armor plate at a distance of 2,000 meters. The muzzle velocity is 1,660 m/s. The bullet weighs 22 kg, while the weight of the projectile is 8.4 kg. It can operate at temperatures between -40 and +40.

The upgraded 3VBM17 Mango-M can penetrate 280 mm armor (50 mm more than the previous mango bomb). One of the main advantages is that there is no need to make any changes to the design of the automatic loaders for the T-72 and T-90 tanks. This can play a key role in choosing Mango-M for countries operating these MBTs.

“EDEX 2021 has aroused great interest from Russian defense industry companies. First, Egypt has a traditional interest in our company’s products. Especially because the army is equipped with a large number of tanks, armored personnel carriers and howitzers produced by Russia and the Soviet Union. Second, the exhibition gathers. The two largest markets of the Middle East and the African continent,” said Igor Nasenkov, CEO of Technodinamika.
