American gymnastics superstar Simone Byers Has withdrawn from the other two events Tokyo Olympics, So she has doubts about her eligibility to participate in the remaining Olympic Games in the future.
The American Gymnastics Association issued a statement on Friday that “after further consultations with medical staff”, Byers will withdraw from the women’s vault and uneven bars finals originally scheduled to be held on Sunday.
Byers had previously stumbled in Tuesday’s game and withdrew from the rest of the women’s all-around finals and the women’s team finals, which the athlete attributed to her mental health.
The management agency said that Byers will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether she will participate in the finals of the floor exercise on Monday and the balance beam on Tuesday.
The American Gymnastics Association said: “We still stand in awe of Simone. He continues to handle this situation with courage and grace, and all the athletes who have come forward under these unexpected circumstances.”
Byers is a four-time Olympic gold medalist at the 2016 Rio Olympics, and she won at least some (if not all) of the championships in the event that she eventually withdrew from Tokyo.
But the 24-year-old girl said that she did not want to jeopardize her safety because of her poor mental health.
She attributed her loss in the team final on Tuesday to “tortuous”: The gymnast is suddenly unable to perform the required spins for a particular movement-sometimes even unable to perform any spins.
“I must do what is right for me, pay attention to my mental health, not endanger my health and happiness,” said Byers, tearful after the American won the silver medal in the team competition. She said she realized she was not in the correct headspace a few hours before the start of the game.
“It’s like fighting all these demons.”
