A Western security source in Kabul told Reuters that a total of at least 8,000 people have been evacuated since Sunday.
A day ago, armed Taliban members prevented people from entering the airport compound.
“This is a total disaster. The Taliban are firing into the air, pushing people and beating them with AK47s,” said a person who tried to pass on Wednesday.
Another Taliban official said that the commander and soldiers shot into the air to disperse the crowd outside the Kabul airport.
