Since the last snowfall in the spring, Denver is experiencing a rare “no snow” phenomenon, and no measurable snow forecast is expected for several weeks.
This almost broke the record because the last time Denver had no snow record for a long period of time was on November 21, 1934. Denver usually sees snowfall earlier than most areas around October 18, but the city last saw measurable snowfall on April 21 this year.
“There was a puff of snow that affected downtown Denver this morning and produced some snowflakes,” Precise weather Meteorologist Joseph Bauer said Wednesday.
However, Denver International Airport concluded in official weather observations that this is not enough to count as measurable snowfall.
The measurable amount of snow is 0.1 inches, and anything less than this value is considered “snow trail”. The city also saw a trace of snow on October 15th and the first two days of November.
Meteorologists believe that the absence of snow may be due to a kind of “That girl,” occurs in the Pacific Ocean, which causes the water temperature near the equator to be lower than average.
The snow season in Denver this year is very different from last year. Last year is considered the most snow season in 37 years on record. Denver saw 1 inch of snow as early as September 8, 2020, and the total amount of snow for the entire season exceeded 80 inches.
Snow-free November continues!
-We are now 8.8 inches with lower than normal snowfall this season
-The last snow is 4/21, which means this is the longest period of snow without snow since 1992
-We are one month behind our plan for the first snow of the season
