- hot. Add jam and chopped berries (quartered or sliced strawberries) to a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer until a sauce forms, mashing the berries as they soften. Describe the steps.
- mix. Add berry base to blender with almond milk and vanilla. Blend until smooth. Taste for sweetness and add more jam if desired.
- tension. Pour the milk through a fine mesh sieve over a large bowl or large glass measuring cup and use the back of a spoon to push the mixture down until all the liquid has been strained out. (You can line a sieve with a nut milk bag or cheesecloth to make the milk smoother, but I don’t find it works well through it.)
- chill. Refrigerate strained milk until cold.
Variety
- use frozen berries – Thaw slightly so you can chop them up before using.
- Try other nut-free or non-dairy products – Substitute with coconut milk, cashew milk, or any granny-free you like.
- exchange different berries – Try blueberries or blackberries.
Storage Instructions
- Shop: Store milk in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
- freeze: Freeze in ice cube trays or shallow containers, then store in the refrigerator for 4-6 months. Thaw completely in the refrigerator (or add the cubes directly to smoothies) before serving.
