Keto Smoothie Ingredients and Variations
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for an Avocado Tomato Shake, what each ingredient does in the recipe, and substitution options. See recipe card below for measurements.
Basic ingredients:
- avocado -Adds the perfect creamy texture to make this recipe almost like a dessert rather than a keto fruit smoothie.you can also use frozen avocado! In case you’re wondering, you don’t taste avocado – it’s just for texture and nutrition!
- milk – Every keto smoothie recipe calls for a liquid, preferably some kind of milk, to provide the creaminess and texture to make it even more delicious. If you want to make a strawberry avocado smoothie with almond milk, you can make a Homemade Almond Milk Or use unsweetened store-bought brands. Vanilla almond milk is also a delicious option. If you’re not dairy-free or paleo, you can swap half of the almond milk for heavy cream for a richer, creamier version. If you are dairy- and/or paleo-free, or need a nut-free alternative, use coconut milk or hemp milk.
- berry – This is to add flavor and sweetness to your avocado almond milk smoothie. We use frozen berries because they help make smoothies thicker and cooler, but if that’s all you have, fresh can be used too. Strawberry is one of the lowest carb fruit options available to you ketogenic food list. They’re also great for avocado fruit smoothies because they’re sweeter than other berries, so you can use less sweetener.you can use blueberry or blueberry If you want something more tart, have a strawberry sensitivity, or just want to change up your raw avocado smoothie recipe.
- sweetener – i prefer Besti Luo Han Guo Powder Allulose Blend for a smooth texture. It blends well, tastes like sugar, and doesn’t harden. If you use a sweetener other than Besti (see my Keto Sweetener Guide for options and conversions), you need to do a Sugar-Free Simple Syrup Use it so it doesn’t get gritty, and even then there’s a chance it won’t dissolve completely. Besti dissolves effortlessly and has no aftertaste, so that’s what I’ve been after.you can also use Wholesome Yum Keto Simple Syrup Instead, it’s perfect for a variety of beverages. Finally, if you don’t want it to be too sweet, you can even omit the sweetener entirely, depending on how sweet your strawberries are.
Other possible additions:
- yogurt – Creates a creamier texture.Make sure your yogurt is unsweetened; I recommend using full-fat Greek yogurt or This Keto Yogurt Recipe.
- protein powder – Add unflavored or flavored but unsweetened collagen or whey protein powder to increase protein content. You can also try mine Protein Smoothie Recipes.
- nut butter – peanut butter, almond butter, or any other nut butter are great for adding healthy fats and thickening agents, although this strawberry smoothie recipe has gone from frozen strawberries and avocado to a very thick consistency. If you add nut butters, you may need more milk and sweetener.
- vanilla extract – If you’re not already using vanilla almond milk, it’s a great addition.

How to Make a Ketogenic Smoothie
This section shows how to make an avocado and strawberry smoothie with step-by-step photos and details about the technique. See the recipe card below for full instructions.
- combine. Add all ingredients to high power mixer.
- mix. Stir until the mixture is smooth. If your blender gets stuck, blend it again. (You can also dilute with more milk if your blender isn’t powerful enough.)
- taste. Adjust sweetener to taste as needed.
- Decorate. I like to garnish with fresh strawberries, sometimes, unsweetened whipped cream.

Storage Instructions
You can make this strawberry keto smoothie later, just be aware that the avocados may brown and may thin because the strawberries will no longer be frozen. You may want to add a little lemon or lime juice to help reduce the browning effect, or just skip the hassle and make it fresh.
- Shop: If you have leftovers from your strawberry avocado smoothie, pour them into an airtight container (preferably by the rim to prevent oxidation and browning), or into a ziplock bag that squeezes the air out. Seal and store in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.
- freeze: Pour leftovers into a freezer-safe container, ice cube tray, or ziplock bag. Freeze up to 2 months.
- enjoy: If the smoothie shows any signs of separation after storage or freezing, give it a quick stir to remix.
