What You’ll Need

The key ingredients are in the recipe name: strawberry and jalapeño. Check the recipe card at the bottom of the post for full ingredient amounts.

  • Strawberries
  • Jalapeño – Leave it out if you’re not a fan of heat.
  • Red onion – Feel free to use white onion.
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Garlic – Don’t use garlic powder for this.
  • Lime juice – Lemon juice is a great swap.
  • Salt

Can I Use Frozen Strawberries?

No. Frozen strawberries release too much moisture and lose their crispness once thawed. This makes a very soft salsa without much texture. Only use fresh strawberries for this recipe.

How to Make Fresh Strawberry Salsa

Chop and toss. That’s it!

  • Add it to the bowl. Place all of the salsa ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Don’t go for the small bowl thinking you’ll need to clean up “less.” The bowl needs to be large enough so you can stir everything together comfortably.
  • Combine it. Use a spoon or silicone spatula to gently stir the ingredients together until well combined. You can also carefully toss it in the bowl. Try the salsa and adjust the seasoning with more salt or lime juice to taste.

Tips for Success

It’s easy to spice up the leftovers with a couple of extra ingredients like mango, mint, and honey.

  • Make it spicy. Add 1/2-1 extra tablespoon of jalapeño or swap it entirely for serrano to make the salsa spicy.
  • Add mango. Stirring 3/4-1 cup of diced mango into the salsa will make it extra fruity and summery without altering the flavor too much. You’ll still be able to add it to the same recipes.
  • Keep it away from the heat. When on the counter for serving, keep it away from the sun and heat because this will spoil the salsa.
  • Make it minty. Change the cilantro for fresh mint to make the salsa extra refreshing and herbal.
  • Add sweetness. Adding 1/2-1 tablespoon of raw honey can balance out the recipe’s savoriness and enhance the strawberries’ natural sweetness.

Ways to Use Strawberry Salsa

Served with my Spice Rubbed Cedar Plank Salmon, this strawberry salsa adds a touch of fruitiness to make the perfect dinner. You can also add it to my Pork Carnitas Tacos, Steak Street Tacos, and Salmon Tacos with Creamy Slaw. If you only want a quick appetizer, serve it with corn chips, Baked Pita Chips, or Wonton Chips for some crunch.

How Long Will Homemade Salsa Last in the Fridge?

It’s best served fresh, but it lasts up to 3 days in the fridge. Store it in an airtight container away from strong-smelling foods like onions to avoid the transfer of odors. If possible, keep it toward the back of the fridge where it’s coldest.
