Sick to wear Facial mask It should be a criminal offense on the subway, according to Sadik Khan.
The mayor urges the government to allow London Transport Introduce new by-law requirements Face mask Wear it on the capital’s public transportation network.
He said this will reduce the risk of spreading Covid and increase the confidence of commuters returning to their workplaces and tourists returning to the West End.
Since the relaxation of the national blockade on July 19, the requirement to wear masks on the subway is only “transportation conditions”, not legal requirements.
This means that TfL’s 400 law enforcement officers can prevent passengers from boarding or ask them to leave the bus, subway, or ground train—but they are not entitled to fines.
The introduction of the detailed rules will effectively restore the rules to their hard-line stance before July 19, when the Metropolis and the British Traffic Police can impose fines and prevent people from traveling without masks unless they are exempted.
Mr. Khan said in the BBC News podcast with Adam Fleming: “We are trying to lobby the government to allow us to make rules, so this will become law again, so we can issue fixed penalty notices, and we can use police services and BTP. Perform this.”
“We need people to go back to the West End. We want to encourage people to go back to their offices. If they feel that public transportation is not safe, they won’t do it.
“I hope the government understands that, on issues of public safety and public confidence, we hope to use the law to ensure that people wear masks where they cannot maintain social distancing for obvious reasons.”
