Forecaster Gracenote predicts that the United States will surpass the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and China will enter the top three.
Team GB won an extraordinary second place in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro standings, and this year they will once again finish in the top five-their fourth place in the trot-with success.
Despite the pandemic, the GB team sent 376 athletes to Tokyo-the most of any overseas games, because their goal is to win more than 50 medals.
How the medal table works
The medal list is ranked by the number of gold medals, not the total number of medals.
If the two countries have the same number of gold medals, the silver and bronze medals will be used as the tiebreaker. Then the alphabetical order came into play.
